Executive Summary
The student store functionality was derived from many years of experience in working with teachers, students, paraprofessionals, state/public auditors, site/district bookkeepers and parents. The student store environment is unique as the store system must:

• provide an educational aspect
• be representative of real-world point of sale systems
• comply with district, state and other audit / financial requirements for cash accountability, inventory control, deposit requirements
• be fun and interesting for the student operator: point of sale and manager
• fit within a teacher or advisor’s curriculum
• be simple enough to learn during restrictive class periods
• be technically manageable for easy technical implementation and support
• fast point of sale operations for very short periods of time
• versatility for different fundraisers, applications and school events

The software provides an application which:
Provides the students an excellent opportunity to learn full store management on a platform convenient for this task. The software touch screen application provides a current point of sale touch and feel for the cashiers. The software can optionally print receipts, but if a receipt is printed or not, full data is captured in the MS SQL database.

InTouch Store allows full inventory control covering the flow of product from ordering (purchase orders), receiving, and vendor management. InTouch Store uses an average costing method for inventory valuation.

Access to the InTouch Store system are covered by security zone settings which limit access to only authorized staff. Examples of security settings cover:

• staff authorized to setup vendors and add products authorized for vendors
• staff authorized only to view reports, or add inventory for sale
• staff authorized only to run the point of sale terminals

Reporting for sales, inventory movement and cash controls are available and provide a comprehensive view for the store manager(s) what items are selling and the associated gross margin of those items.

The point of sale interface is easy to master and fun to run. This allows the student to learn in a controlled, but enjoyable setting.
